Methodological approach of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in feminist reclaims in La Araucanía (Chile)

Authors

Abstract

The objective of the work is to promote a reflection between Geography, Feminisms and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using online spatial representation -virtual map- with the public presence of women in the streets of Temuco and Padre Las Casas in La Araucanía (Chile), as a case study. The results are divided into three items: theoretical, methodological and empirical. For this reason, a review was carried out with references that justify the decisions that guide the territorial discussion with a feminist perspective. Then, a description of the methodological instruments and the process for their spatial analysis is incorporated. Finally, the spatial data generated by the methodological proposal for the identification of the public presence of women in the study area are detailed. The orientation of the discussion invites us to explore the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in feminist reclaims and demands, which allows us to conclude that GIS are tools that make visible the needs, requirements and territorial demands of groups classified as subaltern; as in the case of women linked to local history in the conurbation of Temuco and Padre Las Casas (Chile).
