Rethinking public misinformation in emergencies in American democracie

Abstract
This essay has two objectives. The first is to show that in the context of the covid-19 pandemic in the Americas, governments have deliberately misinformed their citizens to distort the prevailing reality in their countries, thus violating individuals’ human rights. The second purpose is to question the need to rethink using the legal resources available to democratic societies in the Americas to combat public disinformation.
